2022-10-12: Day 12 Podboránky – Beroun (92km, total 959km)

After yesterday’s mountain bike tour, I checked where if there are some alternative routes where it looks again like a rough path. First I anyway planned to take the street from my hotel (breakfast was very good as well) in Podboránky. Otherwise I would have needed to go back a few kilometers. In Jesenice I also didn‘t took the EuroVelo 4 route. Instead I drove to Oráčov – Pšovlky – Senomaty. There was almost no traffic and the street went through a nice landscape along a small river. That was a great decision for going this alternative route 🙂 .

From Rakovník on it was until now the most amazing section. It was again along a creek. Only the bike and a train path are going through this valley. The trees are now in their autumn wear and the ground is full of colorful leaves. The sun shined now as well. Just perfect 🙂 !

I arrived in Roztoky where I traverse the first time the large river Berounka. But soon I followed again a very small creek. On both sides of this creek are hidden small houses, only reachable by foot. They probably don‘t see often the sun, but therefore they are in middle of the nature. I assume they are some vacation cottages. I also saw (already during the last days) people collecting mushrooms. Some had baskets full of mushrooms. Unfortunately the mushroom season will already be almost over when I will be back in Switzerland. I played with the thought to collect some as well and bring them into a restaurant 😀 .

I reached the top of the hill and continued to Točník. There I hiked up to the castle. Some posters mentioned opening time until 16:00 and it was already 15:35. At the end I found out that the mentioned days on the poster are only the weekend days. It was closed, nevertheless I had a great view and some entertainment by several cats on the bridge and two bears in the castle moat. One of the cat looked really grumpy, but posed nicely for a picture with the castle in the background. One of the bear seemed to smell the apple I was eating (or my sweat from hurrying up the hill).

I drove over Zdice to Beroun, where I camp directly at the riverside of the Berounka. Now I ate a delicious Indian dinner.
