Today started our 12 days of „tour de France“, where we will cycle from Basel along the EuroVelo route 6 to Nevers.
After 15 minutes we already had to put on our rain clothes and there was heavy headwind. Before Mulhouse it got better and we ate our sandwiches. I took part at a team running race the day before and run 20km and had almost no sleep. Therefore, my energy bar was already rather low before starting cycling. The sandwich refilled a few percentage of my energy bar and we suddenly could drive about 5km/h faster than before. Probably, also the end of the rain, less wind and pavement surface instead of wet gravel on the road helped a lot. Since we planned to do almost 100km today, we cycled straigth through Mulhouse without sightseeing and followed the canal, that connects the Rhine and the Rhône.
At the harbour of Dannemarie we made a break and ate an ice cream and a very delicious sweet „Dannemarien“. Afterwards the bike path went slightly up the hill and the canal had a lock almost every 200m. I assume it takes forever with the boat to go through all the locks. Lucky us, with our bicycles. At the top of the hill the water started to flow to the other side. Rather impressive how they managed to construct a canal over the hill.
The route to Montbéliard was then less exhausting and after 98.4km we arrived at the hotel.
