2020-08-22: Day 12 Kasten – Linz (78km, total 969km)

The baker came to the camping with fresh bread and the ducks were also aware of that. When I walked to the bench in front of the port and they saw the bag with my breakfast in my hand, they ran to me 😀 .

I visited the abbey Engelszell and bought an 8-pack of different small liqueurs. Afterwards I was on the wrong side of the Danube. Although it was marked as Donauradweg as well, it just followed the street and went up and down, while on the other side of the river I could see the more beautiful and flat path directly at the riverside.

From Schlögen on, the route of the other side came to my side and it was now a very nice part close to the river. I sped and made the next 40km in only 1h 40min what gives an average of about 24km/h including taking fotos 😎 . With a racing bike and without 40kg luggage it could be even much faster.

10km before Linz I had to take the ferry at Ottensheim. It was interesting how the ferry is fixed at a rope and used the current of the Danube to get to the other riverside. Just before the docking it started the engine shortly.

Here in Austria the bike routes were all on asphalt, while in Germany various parts were on gravel.

In front of our hotel I met my wife and I‘m pleased now to go and eat a hopefully delicious dinner together 🙂 .
