Originally I planned to drive 20km further, but there were so many beautiful historic places to visit.
Start was at the friends place in Niederlenz. 15min later I reached the baroque castle Wildegg. The building is rather impressive. In the small aviary are some waldrapps (black bird with long bill) among others.
Instead of the planned route, I wanted to know where all the famous Habsburgs origin. Therefore I went up the hill to the small village Habsburg with its castle. Its not big, but the ruins and the tower with a small museum is entrance free. The fountain is one of the deepest of Switzerland (almost 70m). I took a delicious lunch at the restaurant directly at the castle.
Afterwards I continued to Windisch. I knew about the Roman legendary camp Vindonissa, but wasn‘t aware that there are so many things to view. It took 4h to visit the parts I definitively wanted to see: amphitheater, legendary path (Legionärspfad) along the Roman ruins, monastry Königsfelden with beautiful stained glass windows from the 14th century and burials of the Habsburgs. The best: I could visit everything for free including audio guide and tablet because of the Raiffeisen museum pass.
It was already 17:30 when I left Windisch and I had only 20km behind me. I followed the bike route 77 to Bad Zurzach and decided to drive 3km more and sleep on the German side of the Rhine at the camping of Küssaberg. It‘s a beautiful camping directly at the riverside.
