Goal of today was Donaueschingen with the spring of the Danube.
The rain in the night tested the tent to be waterproof. After the breakfast at the Rhine, I started the next stage a bit late around 10. The way on the map didn‘t allow vehicles and I had to take the main street to Lauchringen. Then I could follow many kilometers along a beautiful bike route and the idyllic river Wutach. I ate a goulash soup to get energy for the first large hill.
The sun started to shine and I sweat a lot on the rise to Blumegg. They were taring the street down to the next valley and I could drive only very slow. Down in the valley a man in a car stopped and asked if he can help. He said that the street I plan to go is rather steep and indeed it was very, very steep. With the 42kg luggage (bike included), I managed almost the whole rise in the smallest gear. But it was rather a fight (in Bernese German I would say „ä Murggs“). Just the last 20m were two steep and slippery to drive. It started to rain at the highest point, but stopped already after 1km.
Reaching Mundelfingen, the bike route started to be misleading. There were many marks to Donaueschingen. Always when I followed one, I missed the next sign (or maybe there wasn‘t one) and I was again and again on the wrong way. I dipsy-doodled (never heard of that word before, but sounds funny, in German „sich auf einem Zick-Zack-Kurs bewegen“). Finally only 1km left to Donaueschingen and then again: no vehicles because of road works. Another detour. 18:00 I arrived at the spring of the Danube (Donauquelle). Now the real tour can begin 🙂 .
I ate a pizza, hurried to the camping and was there 5min before closing the reception.
