Instead of camping I slept in a hostel. In a room of 10 beds only three were occupied including mine and only one of the others appeared. Or maybe I slept when the other person was present. The hostel was very clean and directly in the center.
In Donaustauf I planned to see Walhalla. Directly above the village I saw a wonderful ruin, that was probably rather large earlier. I went down of the hill and drove up to the next one. Here it was crowded by people. Since it was also of Ludwig I. of Bavaria as the Befreiungshalle in Kelheim, I assumed another impressive building, and it was. The interior contained many head statues of famous people. Unfortunately I had to wait about 30 minutes to get in because of all the people.
Next stop was at Wörth. They had a small parking just for bicycles. I could put my bike in some wooden box, a bit like a horse box. Again I climbed up the hill to see the castle. Nowadays it is used as a retirement home. In the café Rösch I ate lunch.
Meanwhile it was already 15:00 and I still had 60km to go. All the way I had a lot of headwind. On the one hand it made me slower, on the other hand it freshened because it was sunny and hot today.
The way before and after Straubing wasn‘t very special an the part that would have been directly at the Danube was redirected. The last kilometers before Deggendorf were then again nice with a good view on the Danube.
The camping place is very small. I took a short swim in the Danube exactly when the sun disappeared at the horizon. It was just wonderful!
In an Italian restaurant (Laurin) I got the largest pizza ever with a diameter of at least 40cm. Now I still have a piece for tomorrow 😀 .
Today I didn‘t met the other „Swiss“ group although they planned to camp here in Deggendorf as well. I hope they are all well.
