Today is the start to my bike tour to Krakow 😎 .

I traveled with the train from Bern directly to Mannheim. Because of some delay, I missed the train to Gernsheim. But I did not yet buy the ticket previously because I assumed the change time could be too short. I used the time to buy a sandwich for lunch and an additional small bread for the afternoon. At 12 o’clock I arrived at Gernsheim, where my bike route starts.
Although I planned to take the ferry and follow the left river side, I switched my decision and biked through the nice Kühkopf-Knoblochsaue, what always reminds me at Knoblauchsauce (garlic sauce). It is a agricultural region (a lot of sugar beets (Zuckerrüben)) with some forests, various birds and almost no buildings.
From Erfelden I drove along some dams of the Rhine to Ginsheim and then to Mainz. In Mainz I visited the Gutenberg-Museum and the Dom and its treasure. First mentioned has three examples of the extremely valuable Gutenberg bible. It also exhibitions many other old books and informs about the history and technique of letterpress. The Dom is kept rather simple compaired to other cathedrales. It also has a long history because already Roman military was at its place and since the 11. century exist various graves, bishop lists and other sculptures.
Although it was meanwhile 6 o’clock I continued and finally was at 9:30 at the hostel in Frankfurt, where I had a nice talk with the other roommates and another guy, everybody from a different country.
First 90km are done. It is already 01:00 when writing this lines. Maybe I don’t get up that early. But the weather forecast is anyway rain. From Monday on the weather should then be good.
