Somehow I couldn‘t sleep too good and was still very tired in the morning. Nevertheless I get up to visit the Residenz of Würzburg. It opened at 9 and I was almost alone in the rooms full of luxury. Some of the ceiling frescoes were painted by Titolo. A lot was destroyed in the second world war. 300‘000 fire bombs were thrown on Würzburg and many parts of the upper floor burnt.
I went back to the hostel, switched to the bike clothes and checked out. At the bottom of Marienberg I parked my bike and walked up the hill to the beautiful fortress.
When I arrived back at my bike it was already later than 12 o‘clock. Today it will be a shorter route. I travelled to Ochsenfurt, where a two locals recommended so many nice places in the region that I almost didn‘t get anything. As they said to be better, I biked on the left side of the river for a few kilometers because it does not follow the main street.
The vegetation changed meanwhile from broadleaf forest to vineyards. The nearer I got to Volkach the more people were sitting outside drinking wine.
After setting up my tent at the camping (and a warm shower), I went to the village Volkach and took a good glass of white wine combined with a plate of cheese. They don‘t have 1dl here, the smallest is 2.5dl. Maybe it keep me warm for some time in the tent 😉 .
