2022-10-07: Day 07 Bamberg – Kulmbach (88km, total 590km)

In the morning I walked through the old town of Bamberg and up to the previous monastry Michaelsberg (now it is a hospital) and to the dome. The dome was kept simple inside. I also visited the church “Obere Pfarre“, which was decorated with luxuriously, especially the altar. Yesterday I saw the old town hall only in the night light. But I enjoyed the view so much that I had to see it also in the day light. It has beautiful wall paintings, a bridge tower and the tiny house behind it, that I admire the most, build in 1467. It is definitely the personal highlight of Bamberg.

I checked out and finally started my trip at 11:20, again later than wanted 😐 . During the next 50km it was rather difficult to get the correct way. Either the signs were behind the crossings or I was suddenly on a different bike route (not Mainradweg anymore), or it contained steep part and gravel path in a forest. The latter luckily not too far. The route also followed often roads. After Burgkunstadt it got better and had some really nice sections. I also made a small detour to see Nassanger, which is a round manor from th 17th century. It is in private property, but since it was only 700m from the main bike route, already the view of this special round building was worth the detour.

Finally I arrived at the Mainzusammenfluss. It is where the white and the red Main come together. Tomorrow I will have to choose one of them 😀 . Probably I will follow the red one first, because I want to see Schloss Eremitage in Bayreuth. Afterwards I plan to go north to Bad Berneck and from there to the source of the white Main. In summary I will follow a bit red and white Main. And in the evening I drink red or white wine 😀 .

Back to today: I first hoped to reach already Bayreuth, but because of the late departure I only made it to Kulmbach, where I stay in a hotel, that had given the late booked room already to somebody else. Now I got a suite for the same prize 🙂 .
