2022-10-10: Day 10 Cheb – Karlovy Vary (63km, total 795km)

Although I started this morning more or less early, I only made 63km. The bike route was along the river Eger and was very beautiful. A few parts were on a shaky gravel path, what wasn‘t perfect for my bike with all the luggage. Therefore I couldn‘t drive fast on these sections.

I stopped in Loket, which is situated in a river loop and has a nice castle. For lunch I was in a restaurant, where they cook all the recipes in a stone stove. My potatoes and vegetables were very delicious. Especially the potatoes had a very good crust and I liked the light side flavor of the stove.

I visited then the castle. It was difficult to have an overview in which rooms I already was. There was also an interesting exhibition in the bottom (prison) cells about various methods of torture used in previous centuries.

Afterwards I followed further the river through a nice valley and reached Karlovy Vary (in German Karlsberg). Somehow there aren‘t any hotels in the next villages and to still go to Žlutice would have been to much (not so many kilometers but about 1000m difference in height).

The buildings in Karlovy Vary are huge and very pompous. It is also funny how the drink activities change. During the first days od my tour it was mainly beer. Then it changed to white wine. Here in Karlovy Vary almost everybody walks around with a cup and drinks hot water coming from the hot springs.

One thing, I also noticed during my ride, is about the run for horses. They have so huge fields of grasses here compared to the ones in Switzerland. And yes, there are a lot of horses here in Czech Republic. Cows I didn‘t see yet.

And another thing I never mentioned in my previous posts, every day I see people collecting chestnuts. Often even very old people, they almost can‘t walk but still are somehow able to take the chestnut from the ground.

The good thing of being early at the destination: I can now study the instruction booklet for the WPC 🙂 .
