All good things come in threes. The third night in my tent was neither very good nor very bad. It could be a few degrees warmer during the night. Let’s say about 15 degrees warmer 😀 . It seems that the bedroll saves my body-heat until around 6 in the morning and then I get slowly cold. Maybe I should wear a longsleeve and trousers. But then I sweat faster. The sweat cools then down and it gets cold even faster. It is hard to find the good a balance 🙂 . One disadvantage of the small one person tent is the dressing procedure. It is almost impossible to change clothes within this small tent, especially if you don’t want to touch too much the wall, because in autumn and this cold temperature it is always very wet. So a good preparation the evening before helps a lot. I kept my Odlo longsleeve in the bedroll, so that I don‘t have to change in a very cold one. I made all the other clothes ready in one of my bike bags. This way I changed into my clothes within one minute.
Now enough of the morning routine 😉 . From Beroun on I followed the river Berounka until Karlštejn. I turned left, followed the street for some hundred meters and reached castle Karlštejn. Already on the way to the castle all the shops changed into touristic shops, so probably the castle has to be rather good. Indeed the view up to the castle was extremly impressive. This castle from the 14th century was built by Charles the fourth. He was the first king of Bohemia and German-Roman emperor. Currently are three tours in the castle available. All are only guided tours. I took the one that was still free and not in Czech. We went through the living and audience rooms of Charles.
Afterwards I ate a vegetarian burger in one of the touristic restaurants, but the value for money was what was a bit expected. It was a lot of bread with a small bit of rucola and mushrooms in between. The potatoes were therefore rather good.
I biked further along the river until a few kilometers before the center the main bike route was redirected. The last kilometer through the city I walked. There was too much traffic and no separated trace for the cyclist.
After this smaller tour of today, I went to the train station, because I planned to take the train to Ostrava. I noticed that the train to Ostrava goes further to Krakow. Instead of 2.5 days more biking, I decided spontaneously to stop here in Prague and then stay already from tomorrow on in Krakow. This way I have time to sightsee Krakow already and to go to the airport and ask if they have bike cartons for the plane (since there were no good options with the train except the very indirect way over Warsaw-Berlin). And finally and most important to let my body rest and recover from the last 13 bike days and to study the instruction booklets and do some examples to be ready for the world championship 2022.
Afterwards I did my short Prague sightseeing by going to a small museum of illusions. Luckily I already visited Prague two times before (once at New Year’s Eve and once for the WSPC) and saw various top places of interest already. Otherwise I would have stayed a day longer.
The bike blog of WSPC ends here after 1010km. I will probably do another post about Krakow and maybe about the WSPC 2022. I hope you enjoyed it and thanks for reading :)!
